Basically, a cashback site is one that will pay you money when you shop on the internet.
This can vary from 1%, to hundreds of pounds - Depending upon what you are buying
Cashback sites have links to lots and lots of different retailers (such as amazon.co.uk, debenhams.com etc.), and they get paid some commission if they refer customers to these sites, which they then pay to you!For example, Imagine you want to buy a book from Amazon.co.uk, and that you have an account with the cashback site "quidco.com". You visit quidco, login and search for Amazon.co.uk. You then click on the link to Amazon, and buy the book as normal and collect your cash from quidco!
This is where smartcashback.co.uk comes in - There are lots of these cashback sites around, and they all pay different amounts of cashback. To find the best cashback payers, just visit smartcashback, search for the retailer you want to buy something from and get told where to go in order to get the most money!
Some of them rely on advertising, some of them keep the first £5 you earn each year, some charge a few pence when they pay your cashback. We've listed the key facts about each cashback site against our search results.
1. Some cashback sites set a minimum amount you have to earn before they will pay out, others will pay from a penny. Try not to spread your cashback too thinly between the sites that have minimum payouts. However, if you're buying something that pays a large amount of cashback (often insurance, switching utilities, or credit cards), then just go for the highest amount.
2. Although the majority of cashback tracking works perfectly, sometimes it doesn't show up in your cashback site account. You can query these transactions, but it's a pain to do so. Some cashback sites give you tracking statistics, which can help you to see how reliable a retailer is, but ideally you shouldn't rely on the cashback until it's been paid.
3. Don't buy something just because of the cashback. Make sure that the product is right for you, and treat the cashback as a nice-to-have.
4. Martin Lewis's moneysavingexpert.com website has a great selection of tips and a forum related to cashback - The community on there often manage to find some great deals, so it's often a good place to look:

There's also a Cashback Maximiser service on there, which does a similar thing to this site, however, at the time of writing it only compares 10 cashback sites compared to our 26 (so you should be able to find more cashback by using our site rather than Martin's). Although it's essentially a competitor of ours, we felt we had to include a link to Martin's site as there's just so much good information on there.
5. Other sites we wholeheatedly recommend are:
Cash On The Net - Cash on the net is a site totally dedicated to different ways of making money on the internet: from cashback sites, to searching, writing in forums, filling in surveys and more. Also has some good freebie information too.
Cashback News - Great site for everything related to cashback
We use a lot of these cashback sites ourselves, and got fed up with having to search around to figure out which site paid the most. As we're software developers, we thought we'd design a site that helped ourselves and others to compare lots of of the cashback sites in one go.
Some of the cashback site links on this site are affiliate links, this means that we get paid a small amount of money when you click on one of these and go on to sign up with the cashback site. We hope this will be enough to pay for the support and maintenance of this site.
